When to use

CMS user (club admin/editor) needs help with managing their website content in Payload CMS.

When answering a tenant question, do two things:

  1. Surface the relevant payload-cms doc via search_help_docs.
  2. Cite the deep link /admin/help?section={slug} so the tenant can open the full guide with one click.

The quick-reference sections below remain useful for the most common "how do I…" questions; for everything else, defer to payload-cms/.

Pages

How to create a page

  1. Go to Content > Pages in the sidebar
  2. Click Create New
  3. Enter a title — the slug (URL path) is auto-generated
  4. Use the Page Layout section to add content blocks
  5. Click Save as draft or Publish to make it live

How to edit a page

  1. Go to Content > Pages
  2. Click on the page you want to edit
  3. Make your changes in the editor
  4. Click Save to update

Available content blocks

Pages are built from blocks. Common block types:

  • Hero — large banner with heading, image, and call-to-action
  • Content — rich text editor for paragraphs and formatted text
  • Events Calendar — shows upcoming events from the Events collection
  • Fixtures Preview — upcoming fixtures widget
  • Competition List — Golf Genius competition listing
  • Leaderboard — live Golf Genius leaderboard
  • Documents — downloadable files grouped by category
  • Gallery — image galleries and carousels
  • Team Contacts — staff and officials directory
  • FAQ — collapsible question/answer pairs
  • Embed — embed external content (iframes, widgets)
  • Map — Mapbox map with club location
  • Membership Plans — membership tier cards
  • Sponsors — sponsor logos with links
  • Social Feed — social media feed embed
  • Stats — key statistics display
  • Testimonials — member testimonials
  • Video — embedded video player
  • Clara AI Hero — AI assistant demo widget

Events

How to add an event

  1. Go to Events > Events in the sidebar
  2. Click Create New
  3. Fill in the title, date, venue, and category
  4. Set status to Published to show it on the website
  5. Add the event to a page using an Events Calendar or Fixtures Preview block

News Posts

How to create a news post

  1. Go to Content > Posts in the sidebar
  2. Click Create New
  3. Add a title, featured image, and content
  4. Select a category and set the publish date
  5. Click Publish to make it live
  6. Posts appear in any Post List blocks on your pages

Media

How to upload media

  1. Go to Media > Media in the sidebar
  2. Click Create New or drag files directly into the upload area
  3. Add alt text for accessibility (important for SEO)
  4. Use Media Folders to organize files by category
  5. You can also upload images directly when editing a page — look for the upload button in image fields

Header and Navigation

How to edit the header

  1. Go to Layout > Headers in the sidebar
  2. Click on your header to edit it
  3. Update the logo, navigation links, and settings
  4. Save changes — the header updates across all pages

Navigation items

Navigation items can be:

  • Internal pages — link to pages in your site
  • External links — link to external websites
  • Dropdown menus — group of links under a parent item

Footer

How to edit the footer

  1. Go to Layout > Footers in the sidebar
  2. Click on your footer to edit it
  3. Update contact info, social links, and footer navigation
  4. Save changes

Documents

How to manage documents

  1. Go to Content > Documents in the sidebar
  2. Click Create New
  3. Upload your PDF or file
  4. Add a title and select a category
  5. Click Publish
  6. Use the Documents Block on pages to display downloadable files

Golf Genius Integration

How to set up Golf Genius

  1. Go to Settings > Golf Genius Settings
  2. Enter your Golf Genius Portal ID
  3. Save the settings
  4. Add these blocks to your pages:
    • Competition List — shows all competitions
    • Leaderboard — live scores
    • Starting Times — tee time sheets
    • Competition Report — results and reports

Email Hosting

How to manage email accounts

  1. Go to Settings > Email Hosting in the sidebar
  2. View existing email accounts for your domain
  3. To create a new account, click Add Account
  4. To send setup instructions to a user, click Send Instructions

Newsletter

How to send a newsletter

  1. Go to Newsletter in the sidebar
  2. Create a new campaign
  3. Select a template or start from scratch
  4. Choose your audience (all subscribers, specific segments)
  5. Preview and send

Site Settings

How to update site settings

  1. Go to Settings > Site Settings
  2. Update site name, contact info, social media links
  3. Configure analytics (Umami web analytics)
  4. Save changes
