Publishing Posts
Purpose
Posts are dated content — news, announcements, captain's reports, match round-ups. They power your /news (or /blog) section and feed the newsletter and social schedulers.
When to use this
Use a Post when the content has a publication date and is time-sensitive. Use a Page for evergreen content.
Key fields
- Title — appears as the headline.
- Slug — URL fragment. Defaults to the title.
- Excerpt — 1-2 sentence summary. Appears on category pages and in the newsletter. Write one — it dramatically improves click-through.
- Featured image — the hero image. Used by social shares and the blog index. Aim for 1600×900 px.
- Categories — pick from the Blog Categories taxonomy. Two or three max.
- Layout — block-based body. See Page Builder.
- Publish date — controls when the post becomes visible. Setting it in the future schedules the post.
- Status — Draft / Published.
- SEO — meta description, OG image. Falls back to the Excerpt and Featured image.
Common tasks
Write a news post
- Content > Posts, Create New.
- Title, Excerpt, Featured image.
- Body in Layout — usually a single Rich Text block plus an optional Gallery.
- Pick Categories.
- Status = Draft → Preview → fix anything → Status = Published → Save.
Schedule a post
- Set the Publish date to a future date and time.
- Set Status = Published (yes, even though it's in the future).
- Save. The post stays hidden until the publish date.
Pin a post
- Each Post has a Featured boolean. Toggle it on to surface the post on the homepage and blog index.
Gotchas
- Featured image is required for social shares to look right. If you skip it, social platforms grab whatever they can find — usually your logo.
- Categories aren't tags — don't create one per post. They're for high-level grouping (Club News, Competitions, Membership).
- The AEO indexer auto-extracts FAQs from your posts. If you write
## What time does the bar open?it may surface in the FAQ widget — useful or surprising, depending on intent.
