Seasons
Purpose
A season is the unit of a competition that gets played out once. The "2025 NLCGA Scratch League" is a season; the "2026 NLCGA Scratch League" is a different season of the same competition. You create seasons in the nooQ League admin app (via Match Admin), populate them with teams and fixtures, and close them when play finishes.
When to use this
- Starting a new year of an existing competition.
- Spinning up a new competition entirely (you create the competition first, then its first season).
- Archiving last year so this year's data doesn't mix with it on tables and embeds.
Anatomy of a season
| Field | What it is | |---|---| | Name | "2025 Summer", "2025/26", "2026" — visible in URLs and on public tables. | | Competition type | League (round-robin or split divisions) or Knockout (bracket). | | Status | Active (live results), Closed (no more entry), Archived (hidden from default views). | | Divisions (league only) | One or more sub-tables — e.g. Division 1, Division 2 each with their own teams. | | Teams | The clubs/sides playing. | | Fixtures | Auto-generated for leagues (every team plays every other team home & away); manually drawn for knockouts. | | Knockout draw (knockout only) | Bracket structure, byes, seedings. See Knockouts. |
Common tasks
Create a new season
- Match Admin → open the competition.
- Seasons > New. Enter the name and competition type.
- Add teams from your org's team list (or create new team records if any are missing).
- Generate fixtures for a league, or Draw bracket for a knockout.
- Set the season Active.
League fixtures — auto-generate round-robin
- Open the season → Fixtures > Generate.
- Pick the format: single round-robin (each pair plays once) or double (home + away).
- Set start date and weekly cadence.
- Confirm. The fixture list is created with every match scheduled.
- Adjust any one-off dates manually if needed.
Knockout fixtures — manual draw
See Knockouts.
Re-enter results for an already-played fixture
- Open the fixture → Edit result → save. Standings recompute automatically.
Close and archive
- Once all matches are played: Season > Close. No further result entry.
- Optional: Archive. The season disappears from the default Seasons list (still queryable by URL). Next year's season becomes the default.
Gotchas
- The competition vs the season. Competitions are the long-lived parent ("NLCGA Scratch League"). Seasons are the yearly instances. Don't create a new competition every year — create a new season under the existing competition.
- Renaming a season changes URLs. Anything embedded on a website pointing at the old name will 404. If you must rename, update the embed (Payload block selector or iframe URL) too.
- Teams that drop out mid-season — don't delete the team; the fixtures already played reference it. Mark them as "withdrawn" on the team record so standings handle it correctly.
- Public visibility is on by default. As soon as a season is Active, embedded blocks and iframes show its data. If you want to set up in private, leave Status = Draft until ready.
