Why WhatsApp is where the bookings are
Ask most PGA professionals where their lesson enquiries come from and the answer is not the booking page. It is a WhatsApp message from a regular, a text from a parent, a missed call between lessons. Students message because it is quick for them. The cost falls on you: each booking is several messages, and they arrive while you are on the range with someone else.
A typical exchange looks like this:
- "Hi, have you anything Thursday?"
- "What time suits?"
- "After 5 if poss"
- "I have 5.30 or 6.30"
- "5.30 please. How much is it again?"
- "£45 or £200 for five"
- "I'll take the five"
- Then the payment, the diary entry and the reminder.
That is eight messages and two diary checks for one booking, spread across an afternoon.
What has to be true for WhatsApp booking to work
Plenty of tools can put an automated reply on a WhatsApp number. For lessons, a bot is only useful if it meets four conditions:
- It must see your real availability. If it offers a time you have since filled, you are back to apologising by message. In nooQ your rota is the single source of availability, and Cadd-AI reads the same diary your booking page does.
- It must never say "booked" before it is booked. Cadd-AI confirms a lesson only once it has been written to the diary. It never announces a booking that does not exist.
- It must answer from your prices, not guess. Cadd-AI answers questions about your lessons, packages and vouchers from your own price list, and says so when it does not know.
- It must hand over cleanly. Anything unusual, such as a custom request or a complaint, still reaches you.
How it works in nooQ
- A student messages your nooQ WhatsApp number, or the chat on your website.
- Cadd-AI asks what they want (lesson type, day and time) and offers the times your rota allows.
- The student picks one. The booking is written to your diary, the same diary as the online booking page, so it cannot be double-booked.
- The student gets a confirmation, and reminders before the lesson by email, SMS and WhatsApp.
- They can reschedule or cancel by message, within the rules you set.
Cadd-AI on WhatsApp is included in the Academy and Performance Centre packages. The WhatsApp number is set up for you by the nooQ team after signup.
What about a do-it-yourself WhatsApp bot?
Templates now exist for connecting a WhatsApp number to an AI model and a calendar over a weekend. They can work, but three things usually go wrong for a golf pro. The bot does not know the difference between a lesson, a playing lesson and a bay hire. It is not connected to payments, packages or vouchers. And someone has to keep it running. nooQ's answer is that Cadd-AI is part of the same system as your diary, payments and website, so there is nothing to connect and nothing to maintain.
Getting started
If your students already message you, the change is small: they keep messaging, and Cadd-AI answers. See how lesson booking works, or compare the packages.
